March is when we celebrate the Rabies Awareness Month which aims to  rationalize control measures and eradication of rabies in the country (Executive Order No.84, series of 1999). 

This year, the college is pleased to invite you all to the Rabies Awareness Month Virtual Forum, with a twist. We will be holding the “Rabies: the Good, the Bad and the Uber Ugly”, in support to our government’s continued efforts to raise our community’s awareness about the danger of rabies, a virtually 100% fatal zoonotic disease. This event is spearheaded by #VET Mends, CVM’s new extension project focused on value-added education and training in animal health, with assistance from our College Supreme Student Council.

The Good…

So what is the good thing about rabies that you should know?  Unlike with Covid-19 in humans (until recently)  and the African Swine Fever in pigs (which is still currently posing an imminent threat), rabies is highly preventable and controllable with long established anti-rabies vaccination protocol.  In other words, your animals primarily dogs can be spared from contracting rabies with regular vaccination which can be easily obtained anytime from a veterinary clinic or during regular mass vaccination campaigns spearheaded by the LGU. 

This is just a glimpe of what we will be talking about on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 2:00pm. Let us learn the Bad and the Super Ugly side of rabies and why we need to take action!
