Dr. Lotis M. Balala, a distinguished alumna of Central Mindanao University’s College of Veterinary Medicine (CMU-CVM) Class of 1997, was conferred the Excellence Award in Veterinary Research during the college’s 50th Founding Anniversary and Alumni Homecoming held on September 21, 2025, at the University Convention Center, Musuan, Bukidnon.
The prestigious recognition honors Dr. Balala’s significant contributions to veterinary microbiology and public health that advanced the One Health approach in the Philippines. Her impactful research on antimicrobial resistance, zoonotic diseases, and the environmental impacts of livestock production received multiple Best Paper awards and shaped evidence-based policies.
The citation further emphasized that, beyond her research, Dr. Balala is a dedicated mentor, guiding students to academic excellence and building collaborations with national and international institutions.
The event was among the highlights of CMU’s 114th founding anniversary, celebrating the achievements of alumni whose professional achievements continue to make meaningful contributions to science and society.
